Alzheimer's is a terrible disease and is very hard on families and obviously the person themselves.
My father died with Alzheimer's after suffering 8 long years with the illness.
The early stages were the most difficult to deal with. I was married and out of the house when it started and my mother would let my sister and I know that my father was forgetting things and wasn't quite right. Then he got lost coming home from his mother's house. My grandmother lived to be a very healthy 92 and my father would drive from Gibbbsboro to Moorestown twice a week to check on her and take her shopping. On his way home one day he called my mother and said he was lost. He wanted directions but my mother had never driven a car and was of no help. She called my sister who was able to guide him home. It was a battle to take the keys away but that was what we had to do.
He stayed at home another year but then became combative and abusive and my mother could not handle him. We had to find a nursing facility that could care for him. That was another long chapter in the saga and we went through 4 private care facilities (he was a handful) and a psychiatric facility before getting him into the Veteran's Home in Vineland. The Veteran's home gave him the best care we could have hoped for and lived his last 2 years there.
I wish the family of Mr. Anderson all of the best with their situation.
