Yes Red maple also produces sap but it is more watered down.Takes much more sap to produce a gallon of syrup then Sugar maple does.You can make sugar with Birch as wellI think I heard once that Swamp Maple (Acer rubrum) could produce sap, but the season would be too short to utilize it.
