Thanks.

It is interesting to know that the difference betweeen magnetic north and true north in 1917 was 8.55°. It changes as the years pass.

Declination, the difference between magnetic and true is constantly increasing.
A USGS map indicates the declination for the year the map was prepared only.
NOAA navigational charts indicate the declination at the time the map was prepared and give you the annual increase.
Along our coast the annual increase is about 4 minutes per year. That is a full degree every 15 years.
The isogonic line is a north south line that runs through our midwest and along that line there is no difference between magnetic and true.
In NJ and east of the isogonic line declination is west. (magnetic is west of true north)
West of the isogonic line declination is east.
The difference between magnetic and true in our area is about 12 degrees, which is substantial for accurate course plotting over land or water.

When I used to use the compass, I took those 12 degress and "Adam West" before I set out.

Its interesting in Map "A" that Buttonwood Hall in New Lisbon was labeled "Insane Asylum". Its either Buttonwood or Greewood I think now.
