Well, there's preservation, then there's "preservation". This one sounds like a winner. But all too often, it's a sweetheart deal where some wealthy (and politically connected) landowner gets paid not to sell his farm to developers, which he probably wouldn't do anyway. Medford certainly has its share of those deals. They preserve open space in farmers fields, but don't provide any access to the public. New Jersey has quite a history of this - read The Soprano State.

They cite examples of wealthy people in North Jersey avoiding thousands in property taxes by calling their estates "farms" because they sell a couple cords of firewood per year too. Even Malcolm Forbes tried this until it became a political embarrassment.
