I am going to the Middle Branch of the Forked River tomorrow. I will be deep in the cedar swamp. If anyone is interested in going let me know. I am looking for 2 certain plants. I will probably leave around 10:30 or so. It will be about 2.5 miles. You can meet me at Wells Mills at 11:00. That is the side I'm going in at. Rubber boots needed.

I have things I have to do, and would have finished them yesterday afternoon if I had known. I won't be able to make it :( I would have loved to come. Sorry!

Tell your daughter Happy Birthday! I will have one soon but it won't be 19 :( I am jealous.

Bob,

I will be at Wells Mills Park at 11. I tried calling but something wacky was happening with the phone.

Bob and I headed out in search of some elusive flowers at a particular location, and in short order I saw a snake. Bob identified it as a water snake, and promptly caught it.

Bob with snake. I like the glasses BTW.

Closer look.

Bob and I were chewing on a stick, so Buddy decided he didn’t want to be left out. He walked around in the woods and returned with this one.

He looks like a reindeer :)

Thanks for accompanying me Guy. Always a treat having you along.

That Buddy is a riot. He got the stem of that blueberry bush stuck between his front teeth. He stood there like that! Nice shots Guy.

Glad you guys had a good time out there. Nice catch on that snake Bob, they can be nasty when trying to catch them. Was he still a bit sluggish from the cold? Nice color phase. Looks like a lot of swamp maples from the photo.

I didn't give him a chance to be nasty. I surprised him by moving quickly and pressing my walking stick against his neck, pinning him down. He squirmed pretty good, not real sluggish.

We moved from a maple swamp into a nice cedar swamp. Here's a sure sign of Mid-Spring:

Here are the largest inkberry holly bushes behind Guy I have ever seen. We estimated 14-15 feet tall. Wild!

Wow, those are some huge inkberrys!! Bob, do you have any idea about the life span of an inkberry bush? Could you guess and age of those bushes?
