Missing Child - Beachwood 1940

Hey everyone,

I have thoroughly enjoyed the many pages of posts in this forum, especially those of occurences past in the Pines. In poking around the NY Times archive, I came across the attached article. There didn’t appear to be any followup. Have any sleuths come across the story of little Craig Bender in their research? I would love to find an article saying he was found somewhere safe and sound.

Andrew

I know this is a topic of interest to you, but there's an issue with posting copyrighted material on the site. See this: https://forums.njpinebarrens.com/th...nly-the-jersey-pineys-know.12883/#post-153669

this isn't some academic issue about what should be allowed in the forums. Ben actually had to hire a lawyer to defend himself when someone posted an entire article from an old newspaper

in the future if anybody wants to post something that's in copyright please reach out to myself, Teegate, or Boyd before you do.

I'm going to leave this alone for now and run it past Ben, but in the future please do not post copyrighted content without asking in advance. More information on forum policy here: https://forums.njpinebarrens.com/threads/important-rule-for-this-forum.10185/

Attorney here. I took the link to mine down. Not necessary for the inquiry and no interest in causing you trouble.

Crazy that you’ve had issues. I’ve never encountered publishers doing anything more than a generic DMCA takedown notice for even really egregious violations. I guess times are tight.

Sorry for the misstep, will avoid in the future.

Interesting and sad. I have been researching a piece of property that is now owned by South Park Gun Club which is situated between Tabernacle and Chatsworth. A man named Louis Mantell from Pemberton purchased approximately 900 acres there in the late 1940s so that he could run his fox hounds. He was president of the New Jersey Fox Hunter's Association and is said to have had some 35 dogs himself. I came across an article that describes how he and other fox hunters took 150 to 200 dogs up to Beechwood to help search for the missing boy (Craig Bender). I believe they joined the search some two weeks after the kid went missing. I am sad to hear how it turned out.
