I recall a school house like that near Indian Cabin Road in Mullica twp.
The "little red schoolhouse" as we used to refer to it when I lived near there. I believe it's called the Gertrude Lauer School and it's been there for a long time. Darmstadt has had farms on it since the late-middle 1800's and I'm sure the schoolhouse was used for the families there. I went there in Kindergarten back in the day. The polks, Mrs. Polk taught there, actually took good care of it when they still used it but I think it's been empty for about 4 years. It is a neat building though, I just don't know the exact date it was built. Mr. Hesse (I think that's how it's spelled) who works with the historical society in Egg Harbor City (at the Roundhouse) would be a good person to talk to for info.
I believe someone is living in that schoolhouse on Mays Landing - Somerspoint Rd. now, which is pretty neat. Living in an old 2 story schoolhouse schoolhouse seems like it would be quite interesting and exciting.
Neat pictures by the way Shep. Does anyone know if Pleasant Mills has ever been open to the public for a tour? I would love to see the inside of that place.
