TRENTON — Two state agencies are drawing attention to New Jersey wildlife — but not with pride.
The departments are trying to boost awareness of invasive insects, destructive pests that have arrived here from distant lands and now are chewing their way through the landscape.
“There’s a coordinated effort in the Northeast to get as much public education out there as possible,” said Lynne Richmond, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Agriculture. “I think people don’t even realize there’s this whole population of insects that have come from other countries.”
