Actually I love our electric fireplace. We have a small house so it does the job for the whole house. We have gas lines run to the house, but are unsure if we want to go that route or not.

Just think, I plopped myself down for the night, and didn't have to get up except for beer and snacks.
I had a wood fireplace when I lived in Vineland. Nothing beats wood for the comfort and ambiance of a fire, but starting a wood burning fire is labor intensive and, if you don’t have a few hours to hang out near your fireplace, it’s just not worth the effort.
The house I’m in now has a gas fireplace. I didn’t like it at first, but it grew on me. It’s so much easier to pick up a remote control and just click “on.” I can light a fire even if I’m only going to be in the house for 10 minutes. I can control the heat output by regulating the size of the flame and, if it gets too hot in my living room, I can just click it off. Not crazy about $400 a month gas bills in the colder months, but the electric bill reduces considerably during the winter because we’re not using the air conditioner, so it balances out.

My house is crowded against another one, and the opposite side doesn't even see the sun on the windows until 2 or 3. Plus, I learned that it's comfortable to maintain the thermostat at 79 and use two small floor fans to rotate the air around the house.
79? Our central AC it's set to 70 all day and all night for our 1200sq rancher. In addition, we run ceiling fans throughout and a window AC unit in the bedroom at night, which brings that temp down to 61-63. Can you tell we like it on the cooler side?

As posted above, my last bill from Atlantic City Electric was $300 in an all-electric home (1450 sfaround 1000 to 1200 sf, depending on how you measure ) with well water and only one window air conditioner. Geez, I thought I was being excessive by setting my one air conditioner at 70 during the night which tends to keep the room around 72 degrees most of the time. I like sleeping with temps in the 60's during the winter, but just can't bring myself to do that this time of year!

We keep our air between 78 and 80 with ceiling fans. At 70 it would never shut off. It runs quite a bit even at 80.
We just replaced the furnace and air in April and it is much more efficient than the previous one and it still runs much of the time when it is really warm out. PSEG here as well.

I used to keep my air at 76-78. Kids finished school and are home so I'm out numbered now and it set @ 74. I didn't fight it much as the older I get the more I hate heat. My last bill was $214 and should be the highest of the year. Coworker in PA has a budgeted bill over $500 (everything elect) 
The "work from home" phenomenon has led to way more electricity usage. You have half--filled air conditioned office buildings along with homes that would of had the thermostat set high during the day, set much lower because employees are working from home.
In terms of overall energy usage, I'd think that would be offset by the people who aren't commuting every day, burning fuel and putting wear/tear on cars and roads. Then there's this...

Wow, that’s really good! I have 2200 sq ft. My electric bill last month was $410 and the bill says we used less electric for the same time period last year, which seems impossible, considering how hot July was this year.
I'm in Runnemede, so PSE&G. Zillow says my house is 1400 SF. I live alone, minimal lighting, AC set on 80 degrees. Granted, the AC is 20+years old as is the fridge. I was shocked that my most recent bill was $460. According to my Bill, delivery charge is $167!
That got me thinking, I haven't been to Zillow for quite awhile, so I checked and it said my house had 1450 sf of indoor living space. That seemed way too high, I really thought it was less. Just went out with my 100 foot tape measure and the outer dimensions work out to exactly 1449.94 sf! Of course the inside is a little smaller, but that's pretty close. And - wow - it's hard to believe the price has gone up as high as their estimate. Don't really care though, I ain't goin' nowhere.
