Navy restores cedar stands in old cranberry bogs....

I'm sure this will get a mixed reaction from people on this site. But I really like this effort....but then again I love the solitude of a dense cedar swamp.
It will be interesting to see Chris, whether they grow just as well without all the World War 2 foxholes the NJCF swears by.
Bob, have you seen those bogs at Lakehurst? I'm not really sure why they do those fox hole things but I really know little when it comes to plants, hydrology, and that sort of thing.
I go by them everyday. I work at the base. By fox holes, I meant what they did at the Chatsworth Preserve...dug the holes to make mounds (remember our post of a couple weeks ago?). I have'nt recently taken notice, but I don't think Lakehurst did what NJCF did.

I like the idea of them planting the cedar trees in the unused bogs. Just why did they waste thier time with the fence? There is a low deer population in the pines because the state has so badly mismanaged the deer herd. It is now the worst place to hunt deer. This is even stated in the game law book they give out. They are Zones 21,23,24 the heart of the pines. We used to see deer every time we took a ride in the pines and your lucky to see 1.
