We spent the morning walking around the area near Wescott today. We revisited the dam and bridge as well as other places.

Then & Now 20 years later

Then & Now Wescoat Bridge.jpg

We went because the water levels are low.

We revisited a few of the monuments in the area. This is the 1935 Burlington County #62

What's it like out there Guy in the main open section? All grown up now?

I did not get there today. I will get there hopefully soon if it doesn't rain. I am sure it has changed. And the reason I say that is because the area NE of the bog itself has changed dramatically. The trees grew much higher and some sort of grass is growing now maybe caused by the fire. It is not crispy crunchy like it was when there back then.

Here it is 20 years ago and I liked the area better back then.

We returned today and found this platform build in the space unearthed by a tree falling over.

This platform is different in the fact someone actually supported it quite well with supports on the corners and the center. I have to assume a hunter was using it . Any other idea's?

This bridge was quite strong.

Scott, we made it to the weir with no real issues. And to the old tractor wheels you showed us on the PBX hike years ago.

Bob, we did not get to any of the open bogs and left for other places pretty quickly.

Regarding that platform, a couple decades ago, I was going to build one just like that (maybe not use concrete) up in the highlands where Webbs Mill Branch source is. I wanted to put one on an elevation that looked over a couple fields. Just because I wanted a place to sit and ponder.

On the one you show, maybe a photographer wants a super stable place to take wildlife photos. Was it in that kind of space?

It was along a stream so maybe it was for that. But he would not be able to see the stream. Maybe photographing a bird of some sort because it was lower than the ground around it.

I haven't been back there in a long time Guy. You have piqued my interest!
South Zone duck season opens today, 11-18-24, and will remain open to 1-18-25. Maybe I'll take the gun for a walk this weekend.

Picture of my son Jeff and his friend Pat in the foreground. Taken 25 years ago when Wescoat was littered with ponds. I started hunting there 37 years ago in 1987. Time do be flying by.

Scott. As we were leaving at the large Sandy area three vehicles came in from the Miller bog road loaded with melons and maybe other food. And another truck was at the old bridge. I did not come in from Millers but this tells me the road is dry. The one truck with melons would never had made it if it wasn’t dry I believe. I came in from Atsion and it was an easy ride. I just stayed out of the large sandy area because I almost got stuck there the last time I visited.

Is there any significance to the difference in spelling of Wescoat and Wescott?
The bogs were owned by a person with the Wescoat name up to the sale a little over 40 years ago. So the spelling is correct and I would say the Wescott name is someone different.

If I was a wise ass, I would sat that Wescoat has an "a" and one less "t". :D

Seriously, the Pleasant Mills cemetery offers an interesting, and possibly meaningless, fact to ponder. There are only (4) Wescotts buried in the cemetery but there are (79) Wescoats. The Wescoat name seems more prevalent. What does this mean ? I have no idea.

As guy said, Wescoat appears in the prior deeds for the bogs that he visited.
Wescoat Bogs have always been a magical place to me. This LIDAR image fascinates me.

More than likely the Boot Hill guys baiting for 6-Day to keep the deer in localized pockets. 6-Day opens December 9.
