Need an ID on a plant

Could someone tell me what kind of plant this is, I am clueless when it comes to plants, flowers, etc. Also, here is a pic of two racers mating? I think, close as I could get without disturbing them. Thanks

Sue, I think its Deptford Pink: Dianthus armeria, but I am having a bit of trouble with it myself. Its a little off color and does not have the intensity or spots. Might be that its too early yet.

If this helps the plant was about six inches tall and the flowers where a little bit bigger than a quarter. It was along side a trail in moderately sandy soil.

I like your ID better than mine. I googled it up under images, and I think you have it. I have never seen it in the Pines.

I didn't attempt to look it up I figure someone on here could give me an ID quicker than I could. Is it a common plant?
