Old gravel pit near four mile circle

Was wandering around this area today and wondering what the history of this large excavated area off Magnolia Road is:

Sort of an odd place. Is it an old gravel pit?

That was an old gravel pit. Back in the mid 70's some friends and I went there to swim. There was a very high ridge that we would run and jump off of. You had to jump pretty far as it was a slope. One of my friends lost his footing just before the jump and ended up sliding down the gravel face first. It was probably at least a 25' to 30' drop if I recall. He got quite bloodied up. Ah, good times.

Ouch!!

Wow, looking at that place today it is pretty deep and you must have had to jump way out to hit the water. The slopes were really slippery with snow and ice too, I nearly fell in myself....
