Hi Everyone,
Does anyone know where the old Tuckerton Dump is? I heard it is near the old speedway, but I can't find any more information about it's location. I was going to to go hiking/exploring back by the speedway this weekend and would like to explore the dump if it close.

Thanks!

The Blue Trail, starting at Freedom Fields County Park, will take you right through the old dump. It will be obvious when you are there. It is the group of parallel curved lines on the last map Boyd posted.

There’s nothing at the end of what was Dump road. Some empty woods mostly
Open the link from my post #4 above Mike and then activate a newer aerial such as 2015 and then the basic street map showing the road names. There appear to be definite remnants of the old landfill that are still very visible at the end of Dump Road.

Just days ago I walked down dump road and saw relatively nothing. There is some private land barricaded by lots of downed trees and brush. It’s possible the dump reMains on some of that private property, but I found no easy way to access and didn’t want to go on private property. I’m assuming this is private but I could be wrong

It is one big hole in the ground.

This is still used as an active dump and recycling area. If there is any older trash here, it’s buried under many feet of newer soil, concrete, wood and other detritus. It was worth taking a look and we walked all of the areas on the map. Thank you for sharing more info

Teegate, the old Tuckerton dump sits at the end of 9th Ave. in Little Egg Harbor Township. About 50 yards in at the end of the street. 9th Ave is on the South side of the George J. Mitchell Elementary School. The property was once owned by the Bower family, who owned a pharmacy in the center of Tuckerton, where a Wawa now sits. The property also was the site of Tuckerton Speedway, a dirt track. There is no visible evidence of the Speedway.

Thank you for the info. However, I was not in this thread. It was member stk28892 who started it and asked for the info. In any event, I appreciate you responding.

Here (I assume)?

LIDAR shows it clearly: https://boydsmaps.com/#17/39.61873/-74.34793/lidarHD

2015 aerial, visible if you zoom way in: https://boydsmaps.com/#19/39.61875/-74.34792/njgin2015

c. 2000 topo shows a mound with a road around it: https://boydsmaps.com/#17/39.61873/-74.34793/pines1999

c. 1996? topo just shows a mound: https://boydsmaps.com/#16/39.6187/-74.3479/njgin24k

c. 1970 aerial: https://boydsmaps.com/#17/39.61873/-74.34793/njgin1970

c. 1950 topo doesn't show it, but the shape of the cleared area matches: https://boydsmaps.com/#16/39.6187/-74.3479/pines1949

This can get a bit confusing because there are two ovals visible and there are two dump sites. The speedway is (was) the smaller of the two ovals, and does not go around the old dump site. This speedway oval is bisected by the powerlines and was active for a short time at the beginning of the 1950s. The larger of the ovals, the purpose of which I have no idea, is visible as far back as on the 1930 aerial, well before the speedway. The western portion does go around the smaller of the two dumps. Part of it has been obliterated by the nursing home. The larger dump is to the south, between the powerlines and the commercial park (site of Pinelands Brewery! :guinness:). That is the dump referenced in my earlier post, and is clearly visible in the 1930 aerial. My curiosity regarding the larger oval is now renewed. I'll see what I can find out, unless someone here can shed more light on it.
