Your photography skills have improved substantially since you first started doing this. Very nice!

"Other things along the trail"....

oji,
I am curious to attempt making a soup from lichens. I came across a recipe a few weeks ago. Perhaps I can convince Glo to taste test the batch on her visit..... :)
Anyone ever make or taste it? I'll report after the fact if we survive!

Oji, I was thinking clams and salt pork.....so you're close! Perhaps something a little more mild so I can get a taste for the lichen..... BTW, Al had me eating cat brier shoots one outing, telling me they taste like asparagus

Al, yes to trailing arbutus-british soldier lichen-broccoli lichen-false reindeer lichen-and furrowed shield lichen.....pretty sure. I'm saving you some soup!

It's located on a hillside above the roaring rapids of Bisphams Mill Creek, just downstream from Turkey Buzzard Bridge.

They're just starting to bloom. I'm going to check them again on Tuesday. I was told that they are very fragrant. I checked the pyxie at the bombing range today and saw just a dozen blooming.

I gave it the sniff test but smelled nothing. Maybe because it just opened.

With all the Oaks dead from the Gypsy Moths are Pines going to start to dominate these areas?

He was really enjoying the sun. When I picked him up to move him to a safe spot he started hissing and snapping.

Still grouchy after a long winters sleep ..... you just can't make them happy.

Just out of the mud.

How big was the snapper? There wasn't a reference for size in the picture, just curious. My favorite picture of my wife is when she was moving baby snappers off a road and I took her picture with one in the palm of her hand. Wasn't big enough to do any damage yet. :)

Enjoyed the pictures.
