This is really good stuff!
I just got this email today as I am a member of the Barnegat Light Historical Society. (New) Besides the glass of course, they are outfitting it with lighting that will duplicate it's original effect. They can do a lot more with much less consumption today. Believe me, I see the effects of lighting technology every day in my work. They are using a mere 100watt lamp and according to the president of the "Friends of Barnegat Lighthouse State Park", with Fresnel effect they'll get the same 21 mile visibility. Very cool. No doubt in my mind they can do it. The unit is also timed to one revolution per minute and to flash every 10 seconds, another duplicated feature of the original. Get this, it works off a 12v deep cycle battery and charger as the unit was made for remote areas where power is unnavailable. I really hope to be there if I can New Year's day. If all goes well they intend to put it into service just after 5:00 P.M.
I am excited.

Enough to jump in the ocean to commemorate the event? If so, I'll be there to see that (again)!

:)

Who needs a celebration of a 150 year old concrete stick with a little blinky light on top to jump in the icy Atlantic? I'm fool enough to do that anyway.
If they had some sort of thing like that to go with it, I'd be hard pressed not to consider it. What could we call it? Blue B**ls for Barney.

I'm pretty sure it's located here.

Too bad it's in such poor condition, would have been cool to have it at the re-lighting of Barnie on the 1st. Some info on it.

The new light is coming from 'Down Under'.

46er:

Rod Sadler’s Pyne Poynt Marina currently stores the Barnegat Lightship, located near the mouth of Cooper River in Camden. The Camden Ship Museum is a nascent organization in South Camden and it does not currently possess any riverfront property needed to exhibit watercraft.

Thanks Jerseyman. I had sent the museum a query about the ships location, but have not heard back from them.

Found it on GoogleEarth :)
