I worked on rooftop HVAC units where your only access was a long extension ladder. Wasps loved to use those units for nests. Unfortunately the only way you knew it had a nest was when you started to disassemble it. Ooops....too late.... Problem was, that extension ladder was the only way down also. Was a bit faster in my younger days. I would go back up and spray the nest, but the scouts didn't seem to want to cooperate

In Rednek's case I think the spray was the only option. As mentioned using fire, plastic bag, explosives, etc. highly depends on the situation.
