Peacock in the Pines

I went camping this past weekend in Belleplain. We were wandering around and came out Swamp Pine Rd to 550 and saw a flock of turkeys crossing the road just a ways down. No surprise there, but something looking like it was being dragged across the road. we went up to investigate and low and behold the dragging bird (tail was dragging)was a beautiful male Peacock amongst the turkey flock. It was a sight to see. He was magnificent looking.

Funny, just yesterday I was watching a group of female turkeys just outside the window and thinking they reminded me a bit of peacocks. Was that male just confused, or will there be a bunch of little turcocks (or is it peakeys?) wandering around Belleplain soon?

Peafowl are three Asiatic species of flying bird in the genus Pavo of the pheasant family, Phasianidae, best known for the male's extravagant eye-spotted tail, which it displays as part of courtship. I have yet to see a Peacock in the Pines, but I have heard the call of the male off in the distance while in the woods.
