While wandering around our favorite NJ area - Delaware Bay shore - we passed over Pickle Factory Pond dam, and noticed the concrete building ruins at the dam and adjacent woods. Was there really a pickle factory there? When? Any other interesting stuff about it?
Ro also noticed that the road is called Paper Factory Road. Is that a separate operation? If so, where?

It started out as a paper mill in the late 1800's and did not succeed. They tried to use salt hay for the paper and it didn't make a very good product. After the paper mill failed a pickle company from Philadelphia bought it in the early 1900's, with the intention of packing local produce. There was reportedly some kind of accident before they started up production and it never opened. The remains of the old mill are now in someone's back yard.

I fished there twice. Once before the dam reconstruction and then after. It was good before but I didn't do too well after. I will have to check it out again.
I will be fishing East Creek Pond tomorrow; in the rain apparently.
