I heard there was a mojor airport planned for the pine barrens back in the 70s or something. It was supposed to be bigger than Newark, JFK & La Guardia comboned. It was also supposed to have planned cities surroundign it.

Does anyone know where this was supposed to be and some other details of it?

Honestly, if you're interested in the pines you really should buy that book. You can probably find it at most Barnes & Noble or Borders bookstores.

But some Googling can also answer the question. See if this link works:

Actually this is a very interesting book which I hadn't seen before myself, "Contested Lands: Conflict and Compromise in New Jersey's Pine Barrens," by Robert J. Mason. I have attached a screenshot with some info on the jetport.

I don't believe the McPhee book covers the jetport in any detail though. The timeline on the pinelands commission website makes the following mention:

http://www.state.nj.us/pinelands/reserve/hist/
1964 - Pinelands Regional Planning Board proposes supersonic jetport and city of 250,000 people.

Most of the books mentioned on this site, save for some of the real bigguns', Can be found and read at your local library for free. Even my rinky dink little Waterford library has several titles to pick from and most libraries will "borrow" a book from another for the short couple weeks you may want to use it. I've done it. We all have our own personal libraries, with books of choice or happenstance, and the Net opens the world to you, but man, nothin' beats a gold ol' library to knock around in. Try it.
