No, the houses would complain but yes it is large. Back in the '70 's there were 4wd events there until a spectator not in the event went on the course in his pickup with friends in the back. The truck flipped killing a young girl. Needless to say that was the end of all events. Parkers pit near the parkway used to host mud truck events then stopped. I don't know why unless somebody got hurt there also. ORV park likes water but of course not 40' deep. Lacey Materials is still private and has not been used since the '70's, what's with that? Of course there is no lake to contend with.

We were reminiscing about the good old days when an old pickup came racing up and 2 guys started yelling we were trespassing. We didn't argue and left but couldn't help thinking they were BS'ing.The truck had no name on it.

It is some sort of private hunting preserve, I think leased from the landowner, Brunetti (now probably county owned as soon as the deal is signed). As a member of the FRMC I've been back in there many times doing cleanups. But, in the far back edge, ATVs congregate (and I strongly suspect from north jersey) and build fires while they zoom around the woods in the back. We have picked up so many beer cans and bottles by the fire, that I told the rest of the board that I would not do it anymore. I did cleanups for 22 years, and when you start cleaning up after heathens like that over and over again, it gets to you. Felt like a servant after awhile. They went in there to clean it again in 2017, and I said no. I cleaned up some other section.

Bob, I've even heard second hand from some of the people partying back there that it was ok to leave their trash behind, because "they" (meaning us) come back every year and clean it up. Makes you feel so good about making the effort, doesn't it?

This video enforces the fact that blocking damaged sites does work, and works well. No need to close roads except those at the specific sites. See shortly after the 36 minute mark and the 42:30 mark.

There was also the good suggestion that motor vehicles infractions should carry points, increased fines, and possible impoundment. The people from the PPA seem to be one note johnny's, strident in their belief that anyone driving in the woods is a monster trucker or part of the Jeep Jamboree, that "families" cannot drive through the woods because of the disrepair of the roads. My personal experience is that I see 99% hunters and hikers just out to enjoy the woods. I am an old hippie liberal, but I am beginning to perceive the PPA as a propaganda driven socialist machine that wants to turn Wharton into a lab for biologists and professors. There is no reasoning with them.

That explains a lot. I did research and found Brunetti owned a lot and it explained all the game preserve signs by some sportsman club throughout the woods. What did Brunetti have in mind buying all the land?

When is the county going to get the land? What do you think they will do with it [the pit]?

I think, from what I hear, the signing is going to happen prior to the end of March. The pit is a question the county will have to deal with, which by the way, they are working hard to try and implement some sort of plan for how to manage this vast amount of acreage. Bigger probably than any other land they manage.

Brunetti was likely speculating when he bought this land. In theory, since it's not in the preservation area, he could have built quite a few homes, but they had to be clustered along Lacey road (I think, according to the master plan).

It's Official, the county closed on the Brunetti property on Tuesday. The Forked River Mountains are no longer private property.

It will be interesting to see what the opinions of some will be after this acquisition. For those of you who liked to access the Forked River Mountain area from Lacey Road you are out of luck. A shiny new chain and lock will keep you from doing just that.
