THE 5TH ANNUAL PINELANDS SUMMER TEACHER INSTITUTE
July 12-16, 2004
Bishop Farmstead, Southampton Township, Burlington County

This event, sponsored by Pinelands Preservation Alliance (PPA), will
feature a mix of classroom and field exercises designed to educate 30
middle school and high school science and social studies teachers
about the unique cultural, historical and natural wonders of the New
Jersey Pinelands. Located on the twelve acre grounds of PPA's new
Bishop Farmstead headquarters, the program will offer educators a
unique opportunity to learn about Pinelands plants and animals,
folklore and folklife, water and land use management from recognized
experts in a variety of fields. Pinelands-related curricula, including
many lessons and activities developed by New Jersey educators, will be
presented.

Stipend is included.

Professional development credits available.

Breakfast and lunch offered daily.

Topics will include:

- Human use of the Pinelands before 1900.

- Pinelands plants and animals, past and present, threatened and
endangered.

- Folklore and folklife of the Pine Barrens.

- Land use management challenges in the Pinelands.

- Geology, hydrology and soils of the Pinelands.

- Pinelands curricula: examples of lessons and activities developed
by NJ educators.
