When I saw the article headline I thought I was going to see something about all of the Pennsylvania Reading Seashore Line rails to all of the southern shore resorts. That would be interesting as well.
I rode the Ocean City rail from Lindenwold a few times back in the 70's.

Whenever Ro & I drive in to our test sites at Parker Preserve, drive Quaker Bridge Road, NJ 72, or U.S. 206, and cross/go under the old tracks, I think of the Blue Comet rushing down thru the Pines. Never saw her run, did get to see some of the last freights rocking and swaying down the badly maintained right-of-way.

If you ever get the chance, get out to Steamtown in Scranton. You'll enjoy it.

Bob - not really.
I think I've read that the PRR and Reading lines down to Atlantic City in the early 1900's had the fastest scheduled runs in the world; I've seen schedules which had trains leaving Camden terminal (down by the Delaware) arriving in Atlantic City less than an hour later. Couldn't do that in any way today....
I remember when I came to South Jersey (always capitalized) in the early '50's hearing/reading about the occasional violent crash of an Atlantic City line train with a vehicle at a road crossing, and how far the train went before coming to a stop after the impact.
Also think I've read that the fatal train crash at Winslow Junction happened because the tower switchman put the Jersey Central flyer into a sharp turn when it was doing 80 or more mph.....

My father-in-law was a tower switchman at Winslow Junction for many years, fortunately not in 1922 when the fatal derailment occurred.
