All,

Bob, Jessica, and I were out and about today looking for Swamp Pink thinking we were slightly early. Fortunately, there were a few showing their pretty little flowers, so we took the time to take some photo’s.

We also found fiddleheads. You may see Oriental residents walking along the sides of highways collecting these to eat.

Yes they are!!! Very nice Tee.

Stopped by to check the patch I know of on the way home from Sussex hoping I had enough light. Had just enough for the P&S at ISO800, a bit grainy, but I'll be going back during the week. They popped up pretty quick, 7days ago there was nothing. There were about a few more than a dozen spikes up.

The last little plant, with the single yellow flower is Pontentilla canadensis. It is a member of the Rose family. Some call it dwarf cinquefoil.

Guy, I have eaten the Fiddleheads when I was younger but now I believe they have been linked with some type of cancer. Asparagus is much better and recently I started grilling squash with my steaks on the barbeque.

Guy, for the record, that is not Lycopodium palmatum. It is Lycopodium digitatum. I was thinking of my palm hat and the rare Lygodium palmatum.

So, it is correctly Lycopodium digitatum.

"Japineys" That is great!!! I met a taiwanese guy near the great swamp once. He was in a minivan (I was on a motorcycle) and I was concerned he wasn't going to make it out of the woods so escorted him to 206. He just moved to the states and had very broken english. He wanted to get a motorcycle to explore the pine barrens on. He told me that he used to ride in the mountains in tailand but this (the pinebarrens) was a whole different thing. I recommended that he get a 4-stroke 250cc since he was very small and light. He was probably in his 40's and looked atheletic.

I wonder how he made out. So, lets see "taineys", no just doesn't work. "Japineys" is catchy though.

Thanks for these beauties, Guy. The immature pinks are interesting and I love the supersize effect you included. That's marvelous detail on the pinks-pollen. And the ant! Did you arrange to have him pose for you?

That's a nice bouquet you've caught. Do the pinks grow in colonies?
Does anyone know what kind of frog that is?
