Pitch Pine

This pitch pine could not wait for a branch to throw out a cone. He was proud, so threw one out before the branch. First time for me to see this. Hovnanian Preserve.

This can't be all that rare, right? I remembered taking a photo with a few of these back in 2022, after the big fire in Wharton.

Well, if it was less rare, I would see it more often though I may have seen it in the pine plains ago years but forgot....things get real squirrely out there. Remember, PBX has done somewhere north of 80 trips(?), and I don't have any recollection of seeing it.

I have seen it but the trees were small like this one.I"ve never seen it on a large tree
