Thanks Sue. It also looks like Dermacentor andersoni. What is the difference other that habitat and area?
Context, really. To be sure, I'd have to look at it under the microscope, but I'd say it's safe to ID it by this photo. D. andersoni is not found in NJ. They are western creatures as of now, found mostly in the Rockies and Pacific Northwest.
There are some small morphological differences, but they are very similar.
