I took the motorcycle out in the woods yesterday. It is real dry out there. Alot of the mud holes I usually encounter were pretty dried up. Anyway, I was out near Mannis Duck Pond area and came around a bend to find two young raccoons. Much to my surprise they began to give chase The two of them were in hot pursuit of my motorcycle. One eventually gave up and the other carried on.
I have experience with raccoons and I am aware of how aggressive they can be and the possibility of rabbies, but to make a long story and explaination short; I came to the conclusion that this guy was just young a stupid and not sick. I pulled way ahead and cautiously approached on foot. He lost all aggression and studied me with curiousity. All the while he was calling for his mom. I took a few photos before mom showed up. From his size I would say he is almost independant.
Here is a fence lizard
There is a spot I know a long one of the rivers that has evidence of some sort of habitation. I need to do a real investigation there sometime and report back. but here are some real old timbers from the area
A crossing at an un-named(to my knowledge) tributary to the Batsto.
You have probably all seen these ruins along rt.532 before. I have never heard them mentioned on the forum though. They are a bit past Moores Meadow going east. Back around '96 there was a for sale sign there and I inquired about it. The guy wanted $3000 or something, it was only about an acre of land. Anyway, I didn't buy the property. But I asked them about the ruins and he had no knowledge of their history. I am wondering if anybody here knows?
Evidence (the pipe) of indoor plumbing.
Behind the ruins is a large hill that had sand taken from it at one point, probably for grading with rt.532
