Near Mt. Misery
I took the motorcycle out in the woods yesterday. It is real dry out there. Alot of the mud holes I usually encounter were pretty dried up. Anyway, I was out near Mannis Duck Pond area and came around a bend to find two young raccoons. Much to my surprise they began to give chase:D The two of them were in hot pursuit of my motorcycle. One eventually gave up and the other carried on.

I have experience with raccoons and I am aware of how aggressive they can be and the possibility of rabbies, but to make a long story and explaination short; I came to the conclusion that this guy was just young a stupid and not sick. I pulled way ahead and cautiously approached on foot. He lost all aggression and studied me with curiousity. All the while he was calling for his mom. I took a few photos before mom showed up. From his size I would say he is almost independant.

There is a spot I know a long one of the rivers that has evidence of some sort of habitation. I need to do a real investigation there sometime and report back. but here are some real old timbers from the area

You have probably all seen these ruins along rt.532 before. I have never heard them mentioned on the forum though. They are a bit past Moores Meadow going east. Back around '96 there was a for sale sign there and I inquired about it. The guy wanted $3000 or something, it was only about an acre of land. Anyway, I didn't buy the property. But I asked them about the ruins and he had no knowledge of their history. I am wondering if anybody here knows?

Evidence (the pipe) of indoor plumbing.

Behind the ruins is a large hill that had sand taken from it at one point, probably for grading with rt.532

Jeff, we took our walk out there yesterday morning, starting at 8:30, before the sun got up over the trees. We didn't hear you but there was a plane doing loops over us. We have been walking alot along the roads off of Push Line. It's one of the few places that doesn't have alot of flies, they have been bad this summer.
We frequently park at the intersection of Mines Spung Road and Lower Forge Road.

The dogs had fun chasing the lizards.

Try and get some of the Avon Skin So Soft Bug Guard. It's miraculous stuff, have not had a Greenie bite since I started using it this year and they are the worst this year that I can recall. Works as well on the Asian Tiger Mosquito's. Should be as effective on other flying & crawling pests. I use the aerosol with Picaridin, there are several other formulations, will not melt plastic. I have not found it in stores, my wife has a co-worker that sells Avon.

Jeff,

Send me the coordinates or close coordinates in a PM and I may have the survey info for that property. I am not sure exactly where you were.

Jeff,

The property with the ruins was part of the Wharton estate when the state purchased it in the mid 50,s. I do not have the actual survey for that piece and as of now do not know anything about the ruins. I can say that the property just to the east of it on the same side of the road was purchased by the state on 6/1/1994 from a Henry Koluski. In the photo below, the arrow is pointing to the property with the ruins you visited. The NJ19T monument is located at the below link and the ruins are on the left and Mr. Koluski's property was on the right.

I do know the property lines and when I get a minute I will post them.
