Question: Are rattle snakes (or other snakes) prevalent around Shamong?
My sister and family are relocating to NJ. They have a one year old baby. They have been house hunting in Shamong. Should snakes be a concern?
Any input appreciated--

Loren,
I'm not a snake expert. We do have a number of reptiles in the pines, but the only venomous snake is the timber rattler, which is an endangered species. They are around, certainly, though I can't personally speak for Shamong.

I have explored the woods in the Shamong area for 30 years and have never ran into one. They are there, but don't let that effect your decision in any way. Plus, they don't like being around people, and try to avoid them. Look for your house and forget about the snakes.
