Great site here! Wow...I have plenty to read here!!

I love the Pineys! We would go in by Batsto and camp and explore all throughout the Atsion Quadrangle and we have our dog burried out alongside one of the lakes there.

We came across some really awesome things on some of our excursions!

Some of the things that we came across on the times that I went...

A pine rattlesnake which our friend was "hunting" for 3 years. (No he did not kill it but he did get some great pics!) We found it under pieces of a freightcar near some railroad tracks.

We came across a single beautiful pink orchid just growing up out of the ground with fallen pine needles all around it just off of a small trail.

Of course those great blue herons are awesome from about 20-30 feet away at the lakes or rivers!

The Carranza (sp?) Memorial. It's really cool to see this really cool memorial pretty much smack dab in the middle of nowhere. What was up with the pennies? Our friend/guide (who we haven't seen a long time..are ya out there?) told us but I don't remember.

Watching about 15 deer run full speed on the roads by the cranberry fields was a blast. OK...maybe my city life is pretty lame, dull, boring (am I being redundant?)...but it was still cool none the less.

Now...my husband and our friend went alone on one or two excursions and they stumbled upon the crane! My husband and our friend couldn't stop talking about it for a month! You mean to tell me that they couldn't get this crane any farther, couldn't budge it back so they just decided to take what they could off of it and just leave the rest of it there?

They also came back with a nice size piece of coal. Our friend says that coal hasn't been brought through there in many years. Is this chunk of coal nearly a century old or is there another explanation for them finding the chunk of coal there?

OK...I think I'm finally done babbling at 2:50 am. G'night folks & happy holidays! Oh wait...BTW...no matter what kind of state of mind I was ever in in the Pineys...I haven't heard or seen the Jersey Devil. Yet.

Welcome panic! Thanks for sharing those memories. I think a lot of us have had similar experiences which stay with us over the years.

Is there a stone marker at that location with bushes planted on each side?

Guy

No we didn't place any markers at all. She's under the shade of a tree right by the lake. It was her favorite place to relax after wearing herself out in the water.

Thanks for the welcome Boyd! These memories will last a lifetime that's for sure. Being from Philly I don't get to see things everyday like I see there.

I'm still hoping to catch a site that Jersey Devil.

Welcome aboard!! Speaking of pet/dog graves.... I found a very elaborate "shrine" to a dog in greenwood WMA in a very out of the way spot. Did anybody else ever find that? I won't give away the location though I doubt anybody is boring enough to specifically go looking for it. :)

In the woods behind my house where I have found all kinds of weird stuff...I once found a recently deceased rottweiler wrapped in a blanket.

Our black lab TJ is buried about 4 feet in the ground in a a small Mahogany box. We had her cremated. She was a true fearless soldier and was never gunshy. She was our faithful companion for 14 years. Such a great dog!

Have any pictures of the rattlesnake you could post? Thanks
Chris

I'll go through my pics and see if I have any copies. I think my friend has them all and I haven't seeen him in about 3 years. If I do have some I'll be taking pics of a pic because I don't have a scanner so they aren't going to come out that good. I'll do the best I can though.

Sure wish we had our truck or any 4 wheel truck or jeep to get back out there again. We've seen too many people get stuck trying to through in there Toyotas.

Hell Jeff, I'll take any reason at all to get out in the Pines. Where did you say you lost that nickel? I'll try to find it for you.

As far as the shrine, is it the one by the pond at the very headwaters to Cedar Creek?

In fact Jeff, if I may go off topic just a bit;

I was in Virginia Beach for 3 days last week on business. I could not imagine living there. I felt trapped. One would have to navigate quite a ways to get some privacy. And this weekend, I had a wedding in Downingtown. Same thing there; a concrete jungle. We have such a unique area in our pines. Not only are they right THERE, but the sand roads make getting into them easy.

Remember the jetport idea in the early sixties? How hard would members of this board fight to stop the same idea today?

Sadly, very little.

I have mentioned the sand mine on Laurie's road and except for a few minor statements nobody seems to care except for a few people here. It will come and lets see if that doesn't change.

BTW, my two emails inquiring about it have gone unanswered. Every one of my other 50 emails were answered promptly and enthusiastically. Either they don't want to give away their response to what is going on, or I am opening up something that they wish I wouldn't.

A reason to go in the pines? Isn't the pines alone reason enough?:)
As for the Shrine...you are correct Bob, the Webbs mills branch. the pond with the bleached out gravel. I must have stopped there 30 times before I walked around to that one side noticed it. Good call.
