I'd say that a red-bellied snake. Back when I was current on ophidian taxonomy it was also lovingly refered to by the herpetocognoscenti as "Storeria occipitomaculata". Is a close congeneric of the "ground snake" or "Dekay's snake" - "Storeria dekayi" The red-belly is a fairly secretive beastie that generally lives under things and feeds predominantly upon slugs - yep - slugs.
As my ol' Latin teacher ( and she WAS OLD! - one of my older profs at Cornell was from my hometown and had had her as HIS high school Latin teacher - and he recalled her as old when he had her !) used t' say "de gustibus non est disputandum" (...ain't no arguing taste!)
