An agreement among Cumberland and Salem counties and the Nature Conservancy ends a legal battle initiated by the state over who is responsible for recent repairs to the dam at Willow Grove Lake.
The agreement also spells out each county’s responsibility for future repairs and inspections to the dam, which is located on the border of the two counties.
“It was good that both counties were able to agree on it,” Cumberland County Freeholder Director Carl Kirstein said, adding that county engineering staff thought the arrangement was fair.
The Cumberland County Board of Chosen Freeholders approved the agreement during its regular meeting March 27, Kirstein said. He said he believes Salem County and the Nature Conservancy, which owns Willow Grove Lake, have also ratified the agreement.
Officials with Salem County and the Nature Conservancy could not be reached for comment.
