The Shoemaker Farm 11/19/2010. My favorite picture. How beautiful life must have been on this farm! I'm so sorry for its former inhabitants and rightful owner descendants.
Side view of the root cellar of the shoemaker farm 11/19/2010. These was two stories and when you open one of these side doors the level is chest high! The front was screened in as a summer porch ... keep cool and keep the bugs away! Must have been such a beautiful place.
Back porch of the main house 11/19/2010. It was all flagstone. The panel on the ground had been over the side door just 5 days earlier. Someone had pried it open to get inside between 11/12/2010 and 11/19/2010. Such a shame.
Front of the Shoemaker Farm house 11/19/2010. Note the short door on the right of the main entrance door at the far right! I always wondered why. Could be a cellar entrance? Or an original entrance?
Believe it or not, this is the "second story" in the cellar/root house 11/19/2010. Not high enough to stand in ... but this is the view when you opened the side door! There is a lower, underground level under this "room".
Standing inside the root cellar house in the screened porch area at the Shoemaker farm 11/19/2010. You can see the stairs going down into the cool, lower level underground.
