Passed this carcass on a neighbor's lawn around 3 today and it was an all-out buzzard convention.
However, three hours later our regal National Bird stopped in for a bite and Mr. Buzzard was pushed down to observer status. It was getting crazy after that with anyone driving by slamming on their brakes for a look-see. Mr. Eagle was not affected.

I'll leave it as a thumbnail so please do not enlarge unless you want to a deer being recycled. :eek:

have you seen any occasions with both black vultures and turkey vultures on a carcass? A few years ago I saw both species cleaning up a dead critter nearby; no apparent conflict.

Here you go. In the first pic a turkey vulture is spreading his wings, perhaps to show a little dominance. In the second pic, that's a Bald Eagle butt on the carcass and the black vulture and the turkey vulture are pretending not to notice him.
