Me and my friend started out at atsion yesterday, had to go the ranger station to replace two topographical maps to refresh my memory for yesterday's outing for places i haven't been to since the seventies.

Went to harrisville lake, took the canal road into to martha, my friend wanted to see the slag heap, got out ofthe car, within 10 minutes ticks aplenty, deet sucks, permithrin for the clothes coming in the mail this week.

Went up old, narrow, car scraping, roller coaster bumpy martha's road to the pumping station to show him that, loaded wih carpenter bees, went down to the oswego, loads of people on the river, what was noticeable was the amount of kayakers compared to canoers, at least three to one, proceeded up to the road where nash's cabin was, i was thinking back i used to drive old marthas road with my 1978 z-28, it was yellow, at least it hid the scratches better, parked the car, walked in to the site, my friend was amazed with the site, the beaver lodge, the slate floor where the cabin was, and also the cinderblock, he said the extension toward the pond looked like it was a patio, i am happy to report no trash, there is a blue trash drum there about seventy-five percent full with junk, also a rusty 55 gallon drum that someone took target practice on, if someone on this website put that trash drum there it is well appreciated, went back to the car.

I wanted to show him the calico area, but decided to go to warren grove, went to oswego lake, good amount of peope there, also in the water, atsion lake i forgot to mention a fair amount of people, went past the ruins 1 mile north of oswego, explored in there for a while, then on to sim place and beaver dam road to warren grove, huge monster trucks on beaver dam road all muddied up.

Went to the pet cemetary on the road that forks off of pancoast road, which is gray's rd., at the southern end of the cemetary there is a memorial to the k-9 corps right before the woods, looked in the woods and saw where the fire came to, i heard they had the fire trucks at the ready to hose down the houses in case the fire spread further.

We left and went to the bombing range to take in the view, couple of people there also,,in the parking lot before the gate there are sandbags for people to view that the pilots use on their runs, then we headed for home. Everyone have a good holiday. All in all a nice day, except for the ticks, man i hate those bloodsuckers.

Also forgot to mention from atsion i took rt.206 to tuckerton road to carranza road, sand section past the railroad tracks smooth but very dusty,at friendship, took east sandy ridge road to hawkins bridge, campsite at hawkins half full, went to godfrey bridge, campsite packed, then out to rt.563 s to rt.679 s to harrisville lake to take road up to various locations.

Yes, but i really wanted to go to the calico area again for the fourth time since the 70's, but my friend george wanted to see the burn area, i had planned to go next saturday to do some exploring around sooy road, chatsworth road, spring hill, decou pond, and possibly a hike to goose pond, but elusive calico is calling again , next saturday is a go. Come to think of it, all of my previous posts looking back have been hard on the eyes, thanks for the heads up.

Quite a journey for one day! It's always fun to show a friend around the pines.

Yes indeed,i have been taking my friend to alot of the old places i use to go to many moons ago, and places i have never been to before. He has been a trusted and loyal friend for many years.

:bang: It has been alot of fun though, like hearing were going to get stuck, the cars bottoming out, something going to get torn off from the undercarriage, that washout is really long, were going to flood out, your u-bolts are going to snap, this road is too bumpy, it's getting dark and we are going where? Were lost, aren't we ? You're scratching up the paintjob. That sand looks too soft, this isn't a four wheel drive. Watch out for that tree.

He keeps on forgetting one thing though, it's my car. :D

After you pass the campsite Boyd mentioned and cross the duel bridge, there is a sign pointing the way. It is public.

I know where you live, but not sure how you come up this way. If you come up 295 to 70 and know how to get to Carranza Memorial, just go past Carranza on your right and when you come to the new bridge at Speedwell Friendship road keep going straight on the dirt road. Do not turn left toward Speedwell.

If you come across country and come to Batsto, turn in at Batsto off of the main road.

But do not turn into the parking area. Keep going past the fire tower and continue straight. Up ahead the paved road will turn to the right and you continue straight on the dirt road.

Continue to either one of these roads and make a left. The second road has a sign.

Hawkins Bridge is here.

Or you can come in where Boyd mentioned.
