All,

You may have noticed ruins along 532 not far from Moore's Meadow Road and wondered about who lived there. I can't be certain of that but I can tell you a little about the place. The 1 acre property that the ruins are on is now owned by the state, with them purchasing it in 2001. I believe the owner at one time was a woman named Clara Pina but I am not certain I am reading the information correctly. She may have been the property owner next to it. The info I have is a little vague. In any event, the property eventually was owned by Karl and Lois Aronson and on September 8, 1970 they deeded it to Edward A and Sylvia M. Bakley. What is interesting about that is Sylvia Bakley was my boss for three months in the summer of 1981 when I worked for the post office in Marlton. She was the assistant Postmaster and basically ran the place. She was a no nonsense individual who was all business.

When it was for sale and I spoke to the owner (can't remember who it was now) he told me he was selling it as a camping/hunting/boy scout spot. I recall he said it was about an acre. I had asked him about the ruins there and he had no idea what used to be there.

Weird recollection....
Sylvia's husband Ed was our mailman in Marlton. I remember that he was a fairly big man who wore "proper black shoes and military blue postal uniform". He was very nice. I recall him explaining to me what the mace can was for that dangled from his belt.....from then on I always kept watch on my dog. He used to park his vehicle across the street from our house and walk his route. When my brother was about 5 years old, he crawled into my mom's old Ford LTD and pulled the emergency brake. This allowed the car to roll down our driveway and crash into Ed's vehicle. My mom was livid, my brother enjoyed every moment of the escapade. (You'd have to know my brother as a 5-year old)
