Sand pits near Forked River Mountain?

Interesting line of pits East of Forked River Mountain, like a big dotted line on the landscape. Were they digging for some mineral?

I have a speculative theory on that Boyd. I was told one time whenever you see gouges like that, a company was trying to determine if mining for the type of sand they wanted was in that area. Just a guess on my point.

You would think that since we have been told that target practice went on from the top of the FRM, we would see evidence of that type of disturbance there. Ted showed me one location it occurred, so later tonight I will check it out and see what I can find.

I started an old thread where I joked about a UFO landing site visible on LIDAR near FRM and we discussed military impact craters back then. Can't find it now though.

Something odd between Aserdaten and Forked River Mountain

Am working on a new map that fuses NJ 2012 aerials with LIDAR imagery and just noticed this. Possible alien saucer landing site?... Look at the regular aerial orthophoto... nothing to see here. Now look closely at the middle of the LIDAR enhanced image.... Here's an extreme closeup. In...

Something interesting about that Guy. If you look at aerials, there was no clearing or roads up to the mountain at all even in the 1940 aerials. It would be very interesting to actually see a story about that practice range. One with dates, photos, locations, etc.

Bob the sand companies do that down here.I can show you several places down here where they have dug lines of pits.I remarked to a friend once they were just the right size for a pit shelter.

And up here as well, in Lacey Township, usually along sand roads so they don't have to bust trees down to get there.

Some look like they are along roads. Are they just run-off pits for water. Perhaps the older ones were along roads that are overgrown. The last pic looks like there is and old road possibly. What is the distance between these pits?

I'm going to guess 200 to 300 feet. We need to go to Johnny Parker's house and ask him what's up.

Send me a link and I can tell you. Just finished re-sampling everything to 1-meter/pixel, which took about two days continuous processing. But I have reduced over 100gb of data to less than 50gb. :) Now I need to put it together with the 2015 1-meter LIDAR, another big job.

I find it fascinating that the lidar can just ignore an enter bridge structure, the roadway, and the cars. This is where Cedar Creek flows under the Parkway.
