- CITIZENS DEMAND EXPEDITIOUS CLEANUP; NOR'EASTER EXPECTED FRIDAY

WHO: Representatives of environmental organizations, fishing groups,
and elected officials. Invited: NJ Department of Environmental
Protection.

WHAT: No. 6 oil spilled on 40-mile stretch of NJ beach from Sandy Hook
to Pt. Pleasant. NJ marine environment including birds and marine life
threatened.

WHEN: Thursday, February 5, 2004, 11:00AM

WHERE: Boardwalk on beach at Fletcher Lake, border of Bradley Beach &
Ocean Grove

WHY: Oil spill reported on NJ beaches Wednesday, but cleanup has been
unresponsive. Citizens to demand quick and thorough cleanup and
research into cause of spill. Impending Nor'easter storm expected
Friday makes clean up window very short.

PHOTO OP: Three- to 10-foot oil globules & tar balls on beach, birds
smudged and stained with oil, haz-mat cleanup crews "expected".

Directions to Fletcher Lake at border of Bradley Beach & Ocean Grove,
across the street from the beach:

From the GSP take exit 102 & go east on Asbury Ave to Main Street,
Asbury Park. Make right onto Main Street go approximately 12 blocks &
make left onto Lake Terrace Drive in Bradley Beach. Fletcher Lake will
be on your left. Go to the end of lake at ocean and park in lot. Meet
on boardwalk.
