I remember when I was in marine biology in high school (about 4 years ago) the teacher told us about an area that was either a quarry or charcoal manufacturing place that was of special interest to bontanists. It seems that the land was entirely stripped of vegetation by a practice such as gravel mining or clear cutting, and as a result only certain, special plants grow there that are found very few other places in the U.S. Could this be the spot?
