OK, I've had it with the lousy quality control on their products. The spray cans are a disaster, they drip all over the place. Not just an isolated problem, it's been the same on 10 or 12 cans purchased at different places over a couple years.

46er said he had good luck with the trigger spray Sawyers, so I picked a couple bottles up at Walmart last month. Just treated my clothes and this was an even bigger disaster. There was a lot of drippage after the first couple sprays, so I tried moving the locking nozzle to another position and that totally messed it up. Part of the spray came right back in my face, and most of it went of the floor of my porch while it would only spray a narrow stream on my clothes.

Haven't tried the second trigger spray bottle, so maybe this was just a fluke? But I'm not going to waste any more money on their products. Walmart used to sell a brand called "Permanone" and I never had any problems with it. I see that Amazon carries that, so I'll probably just order a few cans to keep in stock. But what is everyone else's experience? Are there other brands of Permethrin spray available in bricks and mortar stores? Last time I was in REI they only had the Sawyers spray. They list the Permanone on their website but say it's no longer available.

Boyd,

The last bottle of Sawyer's I bought had a faulty spray nozzle. After I sprayed it a few times, there was fluid running down the bottle. I just transferred the contents to a different spray bottle that I had lying around. Before that I never had a problem and I have used them for years. Sawyer's is still a great product, even though I had only one incident with their crappy spray nozzle.

At work we order the Repel brand Permethrin from Forestry Suppliers in old fashioned spray cans. They aren't the cheapest source around but there is a slight discount for the 12-can case, which we usually order.

Thanks German - that's the same thing as the Permanone they used to have at Walmart. http://www.forestry-suppliers.com/product_pages/View_Catalog_Page.asp?mi=5997

I don't see the name "Permanone" on the can anymore, but if you "mouse over" the image of the can at that link, it says Permanone Insect Repellent.

Gibby, I hear you, but that stuff is expensive and I just wasted a whole bunch today (although my porch floor will never have any ticks or chiggers). I never had problems with the other brand, so I'll vote with my wallet. It would just be nice if there were a local dealer instead of mail order.

Dogg, thanks for the link, but not sure what you wanted to point out in that old thread. Walmart only sells Sawyers now, and since that thread is 6 years old I was hoping for more recent experience with buying other brands locally.

Cool - I will have to give that a try. I still have another bottle of Sawyers and hope that I won't need any more this season. But the way this weather has been going....

I recently used Sawyers permethrin, spray bottle without any problems, but that was the first application from this bottle. A small spider ended up on my treated jacket and just fell over backward dead.
