Me and my gf took a short trip upstream on the Wading river on President's Day. With almost 70* temps we could not resist getting out in the canoe. We launched at the access at Rt.563 and paddled against the swift current toward Godfrey Bridge. The current made it seem as if we traveled several miles as we weaved our way upstream hiding behind the inside bends of the rivers bank, in an attempt to escape the swift current. We never made it to Godfrey Bridge, maybe only went 1.5 miles upstream til we hit a stream wide fallen pine tree blocking the way. After turning around and riding the current down stream we stopped at a beach on river left to take a break and enjoy the sun. We picked up a shopping bags worth of cans and bottles from the beach and surrounding area. Our stay on the beach was short lived as dark clouds loomed in the distance. In a matter of 10 minutes the sun was covered up by the dark clouds and the temp dropped 10*. We were maybe a half mile from the truck and with the swift current made it back in a few minutes. We had just got the canoe tied back on the roof rack when the sky opened up.
It would have been nice to be out on the river all day but we were lucky to have a 3 hour break between the showers and such warm temps in mid Feburary.
Never the less it was a beautiful time spent canoeing in the Pines..........Mike

An old abandon metal boat seen along the river. Anybody know the history of this?
A few random pics of the river.
This pic was taken 5 minutes before the sky darkened.
This pic was taken as the cold front was coming in, there was thunder in the distance.
