The Haines family is an old pines family.
Bill Haines is the gentleman purchasing the Sim Place area. He already owns a significant amount of land in the Pines and is a blueberry and cranberry grower.
There are other Haines, too, Tom Haines in New Lisbon, but I don't know the rest, maybe Sue or someone else does.

Here is a photo of the place that I took on BobM's Pine Barren Explorer hike that was affectionately called "High Plains Drifting".

We visited there on the end of our hike, and while walking down a small dirt road directly across from the Phoenix Pinelands Corp we found this.

Apparently someone was either was murdered or committed suicide there.

My name is Chris, but you can address me by either name. Besides the Pine Barrens, I have another great love, and that is railroads. ChooChooHead is also my screen name on the Railroad.net message board. (A forum that is well represented by NJ railfans). The history of the Pine Barrens and railroads in NJ are intertwined. I wish I was around to see the CRNJ active in its heyday. (see http://njpinebarrens.com/modules.ph...ery&file=index&include=view_album.php)

Although my fiance and I live in Union County, it is not uncommon for us to spend an afternoon travelling around the Pine Barrens for hours at a time, only to have to return home the concrete jungle. We've canoed (and capsized thanks to my inexpertise) the Wading River, camped at Bass River SF, picked blueberries at Haines Farm, and travelled down Pasadena Rd to look at the old railroad tracks. (Something she can't quite understand, but puts up with me anyway. "Why are trains so fascinating to you?")

One thing she especially has a hard time understanding, is my fascination with Sim Place. I can't explain it other than a big lake with a fence around it intrigues me for some reason. That was a great picture you took. And I know that view well. We travelled down Sim Place Rd last summer, and it appeared as though there were several teenagers, and adults, who had been swimming there. We passed several cars parked along the fence, with kids in bating suits towelleing off, or disappering into the brush. Some had been drinking, but all looked at us as though we shouldn't be there. And after the pavement ended, we decided to hightail it out of there. We will return though, that's for sure.
