smelly animal

there has been hit on the black horse pike an animal that smells much like a skunk but is a deep chocolate brown, much like an otter or a beaver in color.
this morning was the second one i've passed. size of the one this morning was about the size of a large skunk.

both of them were hit on the pike, one in collings lakes and the previous one in weymouth, both near water.

does anybody have any idea what they are?

Muskrat, weasel, mink, otter and beaver, are all present, and glandular to various degrees. Need more info.

from the size of this one, my first thought was a beaver. if it's still there this afternoon i'll see if i can get a better look. my guess on the first one was probably a musk rat...big but no where the size of the one this morning.

skunk...it's very brown looking but has a bit of white on the head and pointy looking face. mystery solved, though i didn't know skunks could be brown.
