We live in Haddonfield NJ and we found a snake in the backyard of our house. it is a small snake, but we were wondering what is it and if it is poisonous? I attached the pics.
My God! You have stumbled across the feared Masticophis flagellum flagellum! Known far and wide for its ability to grasp its tail in its jaws and roll itself like a wheel after its victims. As it nears its target it straightens itself out like a lance and pierces its terrified prey with its poisonous tail!!. You are doomed..
Or it could be a garter snake, someone else here will know..
it's just an eastern garter snake, the only venomus snake we have here in south jersey is the timber rattlesnake, which is endangered.. close to extirpated.
