I went to crossley for the first time last week and really was impressed with the man made snake hibernaculums.I had toyed in my mind with building some of my own but didn"t know if snakes would take to a man made shelter.Wasn"t sure if we could build to suit their requirements. It appears we can and one of the signs showed a rough sketch on how to do it.Anyone ever done this before? The sign said to use creosoted railroad ties instead of regular wood because it lasts longer.I thought creosote would be harmful to critters?Fumes and such?I was thinking on busted and hole cinder blocks.Any experienced hibernaculators out there?I know some pine snake infested areas of the barrens.I also have read that rattlers commonly den with pine snakes but my total life count of rattlers caught in jersey totals one:-(WV and Tenn I"ve had much more success.

found this?

that's pretty cool. I think I'd rather rebuild in a few years than use creosote tho...
