Snakes alive!

Joseph came in the other day very upset. He found a snake tangled in a mesh bag of some sort--like the kind onions or oranges might come in. Poor little thing was so tangled it was cutting into its flesh.

I grabbed a pair of scissors and the little guy was so calm--he stayed very still and let me cut him out. He even let us hold him for a few minutes before we returned him to the wild.

Just goes to show, though, how careful we need to be with our trash.

i left two ball pythons briefly unattended while cage cleaning once.turned my back for two minutes on the usually lethargic couple and they immediately got into the vcr and i couldnt get them out.I left them for two days hoping they would vacate the premises. They didnt.I had to dismantle the vcr.they were wctually stuck.they couldn"t get out.the screws had them wedged.I decided this must be the sequel to Anaconda. This was Python:)I shoulda plugged it in and pushed play and seen what happened.I woulda whooped their butts but couldn"t find em.kinda hard to make a butt on a critter with no legs.

Oh, my gosh, talk about a quandry!
Those things are strong, too!
I had a king snake once that was surprisingly strong. I had him in an aquarium with a lid on it, and had a number of bricks on top of the lid. That stinker still got out, and I never did find him. :(

Black racers are pretty awesome snakes. They're like greased lightning when they want to be . . . and like a cobra, they can rear up slightly and even throw a tiny bit of a hood. They also tend to be aggresive when cornered or threatened sufficiently. They definatly can be very intimidating.

I wouldn't be too afraid of them, though--black racers really don't get much bigger than 5ft, and even their most vicious bite is slightly less painful than pulling off a bandaid.

I haven't seen any just yet this year, but i'm very hopeful . . . i love black racers.

yeah your right Bob.Black racers top out at about 5.5 ft and can achieve about 7mph which doesn"t seem fast till you try and catch one on uneven, overgrown terrain. The Black rat snake can get to slightly over 7 ft though the largest I"ve caught was about 6.5.their not as agressive as the racer but I think their prettier.shinier and more of a tree climber then the racer. The only kinds of snakes in south jersey I"ve yet to catch are the corn snake, scarlet snake, eastern milk, coastal plains milk.anyone out there seen any of these rarities?I of course release em but some people have a bird list.I have a snake list:)
