My grandfather used one on his farm for years. He thought it was one of the greatest inventions ever. He was a very simple man but loved that hat! Thanks for posting, that brought back some memories. His did last quite a few summers on the farm.

You'll have to hope it will charge up during the brief sunlit interludes in the meadows .

I had a hat like that, not that one, and it didn't have a place to store the charge. So it worked about like a solar calculator. When you are in the shade it is off and in the sun it is on. That kind of worked out since it is usually cooler in the shade. They need to figure out the science of solar power. I still would have preferred a battery backup, and I would watch out for rain, even though it is weather resistant that sometimes doesn't mean much.
