something weird

I saw what I think is a bobcat in my yard last winter by my shed. I was standing in my living room looking out the back window when I saw a rather large cat, much bigger than a house cat, with a short puffy tail duck into the woods behind the shed.
I found some footprints in the mud next to my house the other night. They were bigger than a domestic cat and must weigh quite abit more judging by the way the prints were sunken into the soft ground.

did it sound anything like a coyote? maybe a pack? i'd lay my bet on that.. they can sound quite unnerving to one who is not used to them.

I hear coyote all the time from my backyard. If this was a coyote it would have been alone when I heard it. It was definitely not a pack. But I certainly wouldn't rule out a coyote.

Cool! Lucky you! :) They are such beautiful animals.

I had been meaning to post this for a while. A couple months ago I saw a coyote on Fire rd. in EHT, in the field next to Fortune Gypsum. The other side of Fire rd. is wooded, and abuts Birch Grove Park in Northfield. The same woods is right next to where I live. There was a police officer parked in the middle of the road watching it. I ran into another officer a week or so later who confirmed it was a coyote. We are losing our woods to development too fast. i was suprised it was so close.

Last time I camped at my spot out near Hampton Furnace I was laying in my hammock and I heard a coyote howl off to the north, I was thinking how neat that was when a whole pack answered just to the south. One coyote was intersesting but the thought of a whole pack made me feel a little vulnerable , especially in the hammock. I felt like a coyote burrito. It is funny the false sense of security that a tent gives me, like a little bit of nylon could slow down claws and fangs. Imagination can really run wild out in the woods at night.

last saturday I was in my tree stand and just about dark I herd a call that I thought was a pheasant, after listening to the sound bites it was a fox mating call, I see gray fox out of this stand a few times a year. it is cool when they are right under your stand and they have no idea your there. going out in a little bit maybe I'll see one this afternoon.
