I was tracing the deeds back for the Spartan Gun Club on Baptist Road which as this thread points out is going to be demolished by the township.
Lets start in 1882.
On 11/11/1882 Martha M Lull and Esther M. Lull of Woodland Township sold 3 tracks of land to Andrew D. Lull for $600 along the Risley Branch and "in the old road which leads from Dukes Bridge on the East side of the Risley Branch to Speedwell which stake stands about eleven chains and twenty links Southerly of a stone lettered AI (Eye) near Dukes Bridge."
That AI (Eye)stone today is a concrete monument located by Dukes Bridge.
I am assuming they were the daughters of William Lull who was deceased at the time, and they most likely were selling to their brother or other relative named Andrew Lull. Not certain.
Now to April 6, 1893
Andrew D. Lull then living in Glassboro, sells the property to William E. Bishop and Rosa A. Bishop of Salem NJ for $1200. In this deed we learn something new and interesting. By this time the "new road" from Dukes Bridge to Tuckerton (Chatsworth Tuckerton Road)has been built which is the road that travels from Dukes Bridge through Haines property into Penn State Forest and through the gate at Oswego lake by the dam and then to the Warren Grove bombing range to Tuckerton.
"All of the following herin after described tract of land and premises lying situate and being on both sides of the new road from Shamong Station (Chatsworth) to Tuckerton"
Then to 1903
???? D. Lull of Glassboro to Harry Leek of Woodland on March 6, 1903
Then to 1930.
At this point Harry Leek and his wife Malinda on December 15, 1930 must have carved out a lot next to ther home for the Spartan Gun Club. However, they only leased the property to the club for 15 years. The President of the gun club was Carlton M. Harris.
This explains the lease.
And exactly 15 years later on October 1, 1945 Harry Leek finally sold the property to the Spartan Gun Club for $40.
