This past Saturday me and my Friend George had an appointment to visit with Mr.Stephen Lee 3rd at 11:00 A.M. We left home at 9:00 A.M. and it was raining steadily, my first stop was to go to go to a gas station that i frequent often on Rt.73 South in Maple Shade.

After crossing the Betsy Ross Bridge into N.J., the gas station came into view and the sign read 1.83 a gallon, fill er up, here in PA. it is 2.23 a gallon.

Before meeting with Mr. Lee, i wanted to find a monument that i always wanted to go to in the West Branch Wading River area, the rain was now a fine mist, parking the Jeep we entered the cat briared, entangled wet woods, there were numerous puddles about, arriving at the Monument site i took the following pic. I have never seen a plate with the word off on it.

We then left the Monument area and on the way back to where i parked the Jeep i took the following pic of the high and fast running Wading.

Arriving back at the Jeep it was now time to visit with Mr.Lee, the first site that he showed us was where the Benjamin Randolph House once stood. Notice the depression to the left of the two Cedar Trees.

He then showed us the site of where his fathers house once stood.

After visiting some other areas with Mr.Lee it was now time to go to the town of Friendship and view some Monuments and Stones in the area.

Arriving at the intersection with the road that goes to the Alloways Monument, we searched in the area for a bit and did not find anything, we then went down the road to the Alloways Monument.

Parking the Jeep, we then went looking for a partially destroyed Monument and after a short search we also did not find that.

But in the area and thanks to Guys GPS coordinates we hit paydirt and found this Stone. I did not see any markings on it, i am thinking it is a property Stone ?

Further exploring in the area, and oh yes the Sun came out, we found the following two Monuments, on the plate the writing was unlegible.

Then in the area we found this Monument with the plate having no writing on it at all, are these Wharton Monuments ?

Further exploring in the area we then found this Stone. Another property marker possibly ?

It was then time to call it a day, the Sun dissappeared and it was getting late, cold, and a fine mist of rain started again.

We then left and went to Apple Pioe Hill, on arriving numerous vehicles were arriving for what looked like party time. We then took South Park Road to Powell Place Road to visit with our friend in Tabernacle, cold ones were on the menu, he did say on arrival that where in the Hell were we as our clothes were muddied up, we did bring a change of clothes, and we showered up, at 11:00 P.M we left for home, it was another rewarding, satisfying day to be in the Pines.

As a note to Woodjin (Jeff), i asked Mr.Lee about the equipment that he and his brother Abbott designed, he stated that other growers design their own.

Also that the Bogs before A. Demarco owned them were owned by a man by the name of Stevenson.

Jim,

The word “off” is used when the actual corner is in the middle of a river, which in this case it is. So they move the monument “off” to the side. As for the illegible monument it is just dirty. It says Sate of New Jersey Parks and Forestry and has the numbers NJ83-12 and the number 6 with the “foot” mark. This means the other monument is 6 feet away which it is. This is the property line of Friendship Bogs.

Here is a closer view of the Forestry Monument. I put a line across it to show the writing is not continuous.

Did you notice all the trees down near the “off” monument? Modern GPS equipment is nice, but in order to get the best reception they just cut the trees down now for a signal.

Nice report and I am glad you had a good time and did so well.

The lack of trees was the first thing that we noticed in the distance, we thought at first that someone had been doing some cutting, it made the find much easier. It was a very rewarding and satisfying day.
